What is a Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive procedure which uses suction and abrasion to remove the top layer of skin cells. Think of it as a mechanical peel. At Envisage we utilise a fine diamond tipped wand to exfoliate and polish the skin.
What is Microdermabrasion used for?
Microdermaberasion can be used for a wide variety of skin concerns including;
- As a regular exfoliation treatment
- To make the skin smoother and fresher before an important event
- Improving skin tone and texture
- Congested skin, black heads and white heads
- Acne and pimples
- Acne scarring and fine lines
- Helping to improve uneven pigment
How many Microdermabrasion treatments will I need?
Depending on your skin concerns and their severity, the number of treatments can vary. At Envisage Clinic we recommend a series of 3-6 treatments at 2 weekly intervals, followed by maintenance appointments every few months. You really can’t have too many microdermabrasions, and some people like it so much they enjoy having a monthly refresher.
Why is regular exfoliation beneficial?
Your skin is constantly renewing itself from the deeper layers. As the skin cells age they move towards the surface and then eventually fall away. This process takes about 28 days when you are young, but becomes prolonged with age, causing an excess of older “dead” skin cells on the surface which contributes to a dull complexion and poor texture. Exfoliating this old skin allows the younger skin underneath to shine through.
A build-up of dead skin can block the pores, and is one of the contributing factors to acne and spots. Exfoliation can help to un-block the pores thereby helping to treat and prevent acne and skin congestion.
Regular exfoliation can also help to stimulate the skin into making more collagen.
Who can have a microdermabrasion?
Almost anyone. Microdermabrasion is great for teenagers with problem skin, and being drug-free is safe during and immediately after pregnancy.
Can microdermabrasion be used in conjunction with other treatments?
Microdermabrasion is a chemical peels best friend! When paired together they are a highly effective, results driven treatment. The microdermabrasion is performed first to remove the dead skin layers, allowing the chemical peel to penetrate deeper and more evenly to treat the specific skin concerns (acne, scarring, pigment etc).
Microdermabrasion can also be paired with almost any other treatment, e.g. dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, platelet rich plasma, dermapen skin needling, and Vampire facial.
Is there any downtime?
Microdermabrasion is a safe and minimally invasive procedure with generally zero downtime. You may experience slight dryness depending on your skin type, and you skin may be slightly flushed for the remainder of the day. This is why microdermabrasion has been nicknamed “the lunch time peel”.
What is the aftercare for microdermabrasion?
After microdermabrasion you should protect your skin with moisturiser and sun block for 72 hours.
Does microdermabrasion hurt?
Microdermabrasion generally causes no discomfort and no anaesthetic cream is required.
How soon after microdermabrasion can I have anti-wrinkle injections?
Dermal filler treatments can be done immediately. Anti- wrinkle injections are best delayed for 48 hours to be on the safe side.
How much do microdermabrasions cost?
At Envisage Clinic full microdermabrasions are only $80
