3000+ Procedures, 20+ years experience, and a Gold Coast Specialist You Can Trust
I started performing hair transplants on the Gold Coast over 22 years ago at Medici Capelli Clinic on Chevron Island. At that time there were no other hair transplant clinics in the whole of Queensland, and only a handful in Australia.
Unable to obtain training in hair transplantation in Australia I had to visit international experts in transplant surgery to obtain training and lean the latest techniques, and ended up a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration surgery (ISHRS).
I have also had a hair transplant procedure myself, so I have an understanding of what the treatment entails from the patient’s perspective.
For over twenty years I performed usually two hair transplants per week, completing approximately 1,500 procedures. Importantly I have worked with our hair techs in the Envisage team for over 10 years, so the whole team is experienced and works cohesively.
Changes in Transplant Treatments
There have been many changes in hair transplant treatments over this time. First of all there has been a general increase in interest in the procedure.
Hair transplants used to have a bad reputation, dating from old fashioned and poor techniques used over 30 years ago. Nowadays they are more popular as people have realised that modern techniques give exceedingly natural and lifelong results, and maybe as more men have decided to take care about their appearance.
The technique of hair transplant surgery has also changed hugely. Some of these changes have been incremental, others have been significant, but combined these advances mean that a hair transplant today is performed very differently to a few years ago.
Nowadays modern “FUE” techniques allow for individual hair graft retrieval from the donor area and placement into the recipient area with a minimum of disruption and almost zero risk of scarring.
Who Hair Transplants Can Help
The most common patient seeking hair transplant is a male with a receding hairline and/or a bald spot. However hair transplants can be done for a variety of reasons.
I have transplanted hair for females or trans patients wishing for a lower or more feminine hairline, for men just wanting to fill in temporal recession, to cover scars, and to recreate the sideburn.
Many women find that a facelift procedure leaves them with a lack of normal hair in the sideburn, and sometimes with scars behind and above the ears. In combination these can make it impossible to wear the hair up. Transplants can successfully cover scars and replace the sideburns.
Natural Results & Hairline Design
Hair transplants must be performed carefully to maintain a completely natural result. Generally a conservative hairline is best, maintaining a little temporal recession for males.
The hairline must be implanted in a slightly irregular fashion so that it does not look too thick and straight, and the hairs must be angled correctly so that the fall in a natural direction, not sticking straight up.
